INTRODUCING OUR STAFF

  • Sue Ha is from Los Angeles, USA and is the Elementary Principal of Daystar Academy. She has over fifteen years of work experience in the field of education. Before joining Daystar, she previously worked at Ivy Bilingual Schools as the Campus Director and the Los Angeles Unified School District as an administrator. She is active in social outreach programs and works closely with various non-profit organizations. Ms. Ha earned a Master's degree in Educational Leadership from Pepperdine University, a Bachelor’s degree in Human Development from University of California Davis, completed post-graduate work in Multicultural and Bilingual Education, and is certified by the state of California to be both a teacher and school administrator.

  • Yuki You is from Changsha, Hunan province. She graduated from Hunan Institute of Science and Technology with a degree in English Literature. She joined Daystar in 2010. Before she came to Beijing, she worked for the foreign affairs office in Hunan Institute of Science and Technology. Yuki is in her fifth year at Daystar and her role as office manager covers reception, procurement, ASA management, bus management, PR and events. In her spare time Yuki enjoys volunteering and serving the community in a variety of social projects.

  • Bruce Gremo is a composer and musician who has set up Daystar's music program called “Found Sound Ensemble”. He has performed in major venues and festivals around the world. Gremo has been featured soloist with internationally renowned orchestras and ensembles around the world, including the Scottish BBC Symphony Orchestra, the Vienna Radio Symphony Orchestra, Lincoln Center Chamber Music Society and the Talujon Percussion Quartet. Gremo performs on a variety of flutes, including the traditional concert flute, alto and bass flute, Chinese xun, Japanese shakuhachi, shakulute and glissando head joint flute. He has bridged the popular music world having worked as a recording session musician for decades, and as an Off-Broadway music director in NYC.

  • Chelsea Su is from Henan, China and she is the Multiple Subject Teacher of Grade 1A. She is also the assistant PYP Coordinator. She started teaching in Daystar Academy in 2005. She likes to read, travel, and play with children. Ms. Su graduated from Beijing International Studies University with a major in Finance. She also holds a Montessori Teacher Certificate from NAMC.

  • James Thomason joined Daystar Academy in 2013. Before joining Daystar he has worked as a teacher at schools in Shanghai for 5 years. James was awarded a Bachelor of Education (primary) degree from the University of Western Sydney and also holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Modern History from Macquarie University, Sydney. James enjoys developing his creativity through playing and writing music, and he also enjoys painting and drawing in his free time. James enjoys being a part of the close Daystar community and welcomes the opportunity to develop and grow alongside his students and peers.

  • Cindy Zhang is from Hebei, China and is our Grade 2 teacher assistant. She joined us in 2008 and has 8 years of working experience. In her spare time, she likes to read and do sports. Cindy Zhang graduated from Hebei Normal University with a Bachelor of English Education and holds a teaching certificate。

  • He Lixing is from Hubei Province, graduated from Beijng Normal University, majoring in Education Science. She used to work at a school in Hubei for seven years. She has 18 years teaching experience. She joined Daystar in 2004, and is now our Chinese teacher in Class 1B as well as a coordinator for elementary Character Education. In her spare time, she likes reading, travel and cooking.

    He Lixing (何立杏)
  • Xu Te is from Changchun, Jilin Province, China and is a Grade 3 Math teacher. She joined us in 2012. She has nearly nine years of teaching experience at Beijing international schools. She was a cross-subject teacher in Beijing Huijia Private School. In her spare time, she likes to play sports, read and travel. Xu Te graduated from Jilin Normal University School of Education where she majored in elementary education.

  • Liu Chunxiang comes from Yiyang, Hunan province. She works in Daystar as kindergarten principal, and she joined Daystar in May 2012. She graduated from Northwestern University, and she has Chinese kindergarten teacher qualification, kindergarten principal certificate and Montessori teacher certificate (3-6 years old children) that was awarded by AMI. She has worked in the early childhood education industry in Guangzhou, Xi’an, Singapore and Beijing for 16 years.

    Spring Liu (刘春香)
  • Marian Cortes Brina is from the Philippines and is the Jasmine Casa’s (Casa A) English Montessori Lead Teacher. This will be her third year at Daystar and she has been teaching for nearly 16 years. She used to work in the Philippines and Jakarta, Indonesia before coming to Beijing. She went to law school for a year but due to her passion for children, she decided to continue her career in the field of teaching. She is a strong believer of the Montessori method. She loves to travel and truly enjoys the beach. She also likes to choreograph and direct school plays. Music and dancing are her greatest passion. She graduated from the University of the Philippines holding a degree in Education. She also took an online Special Education Certificate from the same university. She took a Montessori elementary training from Seacoast Center in the US and finished her AMS Montessori training from Northeast Montessori Institute in the US.

  • Yu Qin comes from Beijing, China. She is the Chinese lead teacher of Coconut’s Casa (Casa C) and has joined in Daystar Academy since 2014. She has worked in Early Childhood Education Area for 8 years. During free time, she likes to read and travel. She graduated from Capital University of Economics and Business and her major is International Economics and Trade. However, she has been working as a teacher in Montessori schools since her graduation. She also owns the AMS certification.

  • Xuguang comes from Hefei, Anhui province, joined Daystar in the year 2008. His job is kitchen chef. He has been being cooker for 15 years, very good at Chinese food, Western food and snacks, he loves cooking. Now he’s been working in Daystar for more than 6 years, this working environment gives him lots of happiness and enjoyment because he can cook for so many children comes from different countries.

  • Matt Heyman is from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and is the Athletic Coordinator. He joined Daystar in 2016. Previously, he worked for seven years as a Physical Education and Health teacher for high school and elementary school. He graduated from West Virginia University in 2000 with a B.S. in Physical Education and Health, and in 2013 he graduated from Duquesne University with a B.A. in Sports Leadership. Mr Heyman played collegiate and high level men’s rugby in the United States, but also has played and coached many other sports including baseball, volleyball and basketball. He loves watching American football.

  • Colt joined Daystar Academy in August 2016 as our Director of Curriculum, Instruction and Assessment K-12*. He is American and holds a Master’s Degree and a Ph. D in Education. He has 13 years of experience working in the United States as an educator. He currently is the Coordinator of District Assessments where he oversees assessment and learning for his school district that consists of 75 schools.

  • Steve joined Daystar Academy in July 2016 as the Co-Head of School, Middle & High School. He has a Masters in Education Administration. Steve is Canadian and has been working in education in a variety of teaching and leadership positions that include not only overseeing the MYP and IBDP programs at a school in Canada, but he also has experience in developing new schools and new programs at schools in China. He is able to speak French and Spanish, is conversational in Japanese and is learning Mandarin.
